It was a night of firsts at Canterbury Park on Friday night with Dawn Raid (Charge Forward) saluting for the first time in metropolitan company. But Dawn Raid wasn't the only one in the race celebrating their first victory in town with his rider Billy Owen also notching up his first city winner. Owen, 26 reccomenced his apprenticeship in July last year after a lengthy break following struggles with his weight- in that time, he was the travelling strapper of Single Gaze for trainer Nick Olive.

Owen was understandably elated after the win "He (Dawn Raid) isn't the biggest horse but he's got a huge heart, he was keen in the early stages tonight but eventually settled well underneath me and did well to chase down the leader with alot more weight"

John O'Shea praised Owen's ride after the win "Billy rode him well from the awkward draw, he got him nice and balanced coming arounf the home turn and the pair were too strong".

Friday night's win was Dawn Raid's third straight for the preparation and his seventh overall. He has now earnt his connections over $130,000 from 20 career starts.

Congratulations to J E Abrahams Pty Ltd, Finemore Thoroughbreds, Dr C E Foote, Mr D E Tout, Mr M P Hay, Mrs I O'shea, Mrs F J O'shea
