Easter 2024

I AM INVINCIBLE X OCEANEX

Lot 191 I Am Invincible x Oceanex

Purchased for $350,000

Remaining 30%

This classy colt is by Australia’s champion sire I Am Invincible, his stakes performed progeny list is never ending, headed by the 10 time G1 winner Imperatriz, stallion at stud Home Affairs and star Godolphin mare In Secret. The super stallion looks set to be the first sire in Australian history to break the $30 million mark for progeny earnings in a single season.

The colt is out of the tough G3 winning mare, Oceanex. The dam won close to $900k including six wins to go along with eight minor placings, several of those a listed and group level. This Kia Ora graduate is a well proportioned, athletic, strong horse who has all the attributes of a quality colt. It’s not everyday you buy a colt of this quality from the country’s best stallion out of a G3 winning mare, we think this is an astute purchase all things considered.

Inglis Classic 2024

The Inglis Classic sale in recent years has produced the likes of Pride of Jenni, Buenos Noches and Mazu, all of whom have gone on to well outperform their purchase price. This sale historically has represented great value and has produced more stakes winners purchased for $100,000 or less than any other auction in the country. Not to be left out John has also purchased several stakes performers from the sale including Zou Tiger (Zoustar) in 2021 for $200,000, the gelding recently won the listed Carrington Stakes by 2.5L taking his prize money tally to $530,000 from just thirteen starts, in 2022 Saltaire (Star Turn) was purchased for $140,000 by the team at Kitchwin Hills, the filly took out the $500,000 listed Inglis Nursery at just her second start, the now three-year-old has amassed a total of $467,525 in ten career runs. Some of our other recent Inglis Classic graduates include Rhythm of Love ($40,000) and King of Naples ($170,000), both have already exceeded their purchase price comfortably with plenty of racing upside to come.

Shamus Award x O'Reilly's Angel

Lot 534 Shamus Award x O’Reilly’s Angel

Purchased for $40,000

Remaining- 30%

This colt has Classic Sale value written all over him being by the Cox Plate winning Shamus Award out of a two-time winning O’Reilly mare, O’Reilly’s Angel. Shamus Award has produced several Group 1 winners including star mare Duais, three time G1 winner Incentivise and Mr Quickie who went on to earn over $2 million in prize money. The stallion is very prominent in the Australian staying ranks with his progeny claiming Group 1’s such as the Caulfield Cup, Australian Cup, Makybe Diva Stakes, Turnbull Stakes, Tancred Stakes, QLD Derby, QLD Oaks, two Australian Oaks as well as 2nd in the Melbourne Cup. The son of Snitzel is currently striking at 6.75% stakes winners to runners outperforming the likes of Written Tycoon, Dundeel, Toronado and So You Think.

This cross has produced the G1 winning El Patroness who took out the Australian Oaks in 2022 winning by over 2.5 lengths beating both Gypsy Goddess and Hinged who have gone on to be subsequent G1 winners. The O’Reilly cross has only had two runners with the second also being a stakes winner, Served Cold took out the listed Geelong Classic before contesting the G1 VRC Oaks this season. O’Reilly is currently tenth this season in the broodmare sire ranks, striking at a phenomenal 41.5% runners to winners with almost 10% stakes winners.

John bred the colt and is keen on retaining a majority share, the yearling is a deep, strong and good moving individual with plenty of substance and scope moving forward. We expect the Lime Country graduate to be targeted at the classic staying races as a three-year-old, at $40,000 this is a fantastic opportunity to race a potential Derby winning colt.

Magic Millions 2024

We always enjoy getting up to the Gold Coast for this sale every year, with the combination of good weather, big races and plenty of quality yearlings we never miss it. This year was no different, as always the market was very strong but we are confident we’ve secured the right horses at some very good prices.

Our success is highlighted at this sale by number of horses including Schwarz (Zoustar), who was purchased in 2022 in partnership with the Victorian Alliance. The colt has won two races from just the three career starts including the Listed Springtime Stakes over 1400m at Flemington, we are all excited for this lightly raced Magic Millions graduate to present back at the races this Autumn. Our other recent purchases at this sale include stakes winner Avebury (Savabeel), Junqueria (Capitalist), Sydney Bowler (Deep Field) and debut winner Getafix (Calyx).

An additional incentive to buy at this sale is a ever growing race series now worth $20.7M in the 2024/25 season, this is spread across twenty eight races nationally. Some of the features include the $3M 3yo Guineas and 2yo Classic to go along with two Magic Millions maidens both worth $250k and a new six six race program worth $2.25M to be run on the Friday evening before the Magic Millions Raceday.

Farnan x Asinara

Lot – 446 Farnan x Asinara Filly

Purchase Price- $250,000
Remaining – 10%

Lot 446 is by the Golden Slipper winning first season sire Farnan. The son of Not A Single Doubt continuously has progeny that catches our eye with multiple yearlings continuing to make our short lists, due to such quality his sale average settled just shy of $310k. The now Kia Ora based stallion was the dominant colt for his two-year-old season winning his first five races headlined by the G1 Golden Slipper but also included the G2 Silver Slipper and G2 Todman.

Two of the foals to hail from Asinara are currently in the stable, knowing the potential of the pair this filly was a must have at the sale. The Godolphin mare was Group 3 placed herself before going on to be beaten only three lengths in the G1 Vinery Stud Stakes in 2016.  We were very pleased to secure this filly for $250,000, the September foal is an exceptional mover, taking our eye every time she stepped out the box. A very deep, strong actioned filly, we’d expect her to get up and running as a 2yo.

Maurice x Maracas

Lot 915- Maurice x Maracas Colt

Purchase Price-$200,000

Colours Available

COMPLETED BREAKING IN- Video below

The 2015 Japanese Horse of Year, Maurice was a six-time Group 1 winner with a race resume including the Hong Kong Mile in his four-year-old season and training on to take the Hong Cup over 2000m as a five-year-old. The now well established shuttle stallion is building an equally as impressive record at stud with multiple Group 1 winners in Australia, Hong Kong and Japan. Top performers include Hitotsu, a three time G1 winning colt with Two Derby’s and Australian Guineas to his name, Champion 2022 Older Female of Japan, Geraldina and Doomben 10,0000 winner Mazu who has accumulated over $7.7 million in prizemoney.

The Arrowfield resident stallion has an outstanding record with Redoute’s Choice line mares with stakes winners bred on that cross including Hitotsu, Bank Maur, Ganbare, Azula, and Namesake. Our colt is no different hailing from the well related Maracas (Snitzel), who is a one time winner from just two starts, she is half sister to the G1 Hong Kong Sprint winner Inspiration as well as being a full sister to the G1 Australian Guineas winner and stallion at stud, Wandjina. Another vote of confidence for this yearling is Maurice’s established record of producing high quality colts, striking at 71% winners to runners with 20 individual stakes winners out of his all time male crop. Physically this colt is very much in mold of his sire with a deep girth, powerful shoulder and forearm, good muscle coverage and loose action, to go along with a faultless temperament.

2yos In training

Karmardo

Lot 186 Karmardo (Toronado x Karmic)

His by the same sire as Group 1 winners Masked CrusaderShelby Sixtysix & Mariamia. An athletic type with a real physical presence we feel slipped under the radar at a very competitive sale, being out of a New Zealand mare who is a half sister to G1 Rosehill Guineas winner Zabrasive, whom John trained. We believe this colt will be targeted over the short to middle distances, he is a potential two-year-old, with the expectation to train on and improve with time in line with the breed.

Toronado is flying at the minute both in Australia and Hong Kong,  this includes the recent G1 winner Helios Express taking out The Hong Kong Classic Mile for 4yo’s. This is the same race both Golden Sixty and Romantic Warrior took out in their 4yo seasons. Another recent Group 1 winner for the sire is Victor The Winner, the gelding took out The Centenary Sprint Cup over 1200m, the now five-year-old was purchased here in Australia for $180,000 and was bred on the same farm as our gelding.

The gelding has since been broken in and had preparation in the stables, we have been more than happy with the ability he has to offer at this early stage, please breaking in video below.

Purchased for $170,000.

NZ KARAKA YEARLINGS

Sunset PRayer

Lot 286 Sunset Prayer (The Autumn Sun x Kyrie Eleison)

The filly is by exciting young sire The Autumn Sun whose progeny have really came into their own over the pasted month with the likes of Autumn Angel taking out the G3 Ethereal Stakes over 2000m recently at Caulfield, Autumn Ballet backed up her G3 Black Opal victory with the G2 Silver Shadow at Randwick and Matusalem won over 1800m in town as a three-year-old taking on the older horses. As the sire’s progeny continue to develop and get out over a staying trip we are starting to see the best of them.

With a bloodline stamped with black type she looks destined to be aimed at the classics. With third dam L’Quiz producing six stakes performers, including Gr1 winners St Reims and Champagne

The filly has already completed her first preparation through the stables impressing along the way, please see video below.

A beautiful staying type with residual value made her a must have for John and the team at the sales.

Purchased for $220,000 NZD.
