Spring is just around the corner after the first group one of the season was run at Randwick on Saturday, Winx Stakes day proved a successful one for the stable with Awesome Wonder picking up her first Saturday Metropolitan victory and King of Naples running a gallant second in what has been a fruitful campaign.
The first of three runners Awesome Wonder was dominate in victory over 2400m, after having a luckless last month the mare made no mistake on Saturday when given a perfect ride from Tyler Schiller. It was a slowly run affair but the five-year-old showed a great turn of speed and careered away over the final furlong.
A huge congratulations to long time friend and supporter of the stables, Jason Abrahams.
King of Naples rounded out a fantastic preparation in the last race, running a narrow second to the Brad Widdup trained Tintookie. The son of Your Song has had six starts this preparation for two wins, three minor placings and over $200,000 in prizemoney, the four-year-old will now head to paddock for a much deserved spell.
