Kirwan Captures Gold Cup

Kirwan’s Lane put a home town Cup on the mantlepiece of our new Hawkesbury stable with a well-deserved victory in the Hawkesbury Gold Cup (Group 3) on Saturday. His maiden stakes success was the Charm Spirit (IRE) gelding’s ninth win overall, now surpassing over $500,000 in stakes earned.

Bred by renowned New Zealand breeder Christopher Grace, Kirwan’s Lane was purchased at the 2018 Karaka Book 1 Yearling Sale for $170,000 (NZD). Second up at Hawkesbury, he relished the heavy ground to power over his rivals and score by a decisive length. Stablemate Berdibek lost no admirers with his performance, encountering a checkered passage in the run home but finishing strongly when clear.

Both horses will now go to Scone to contest the Scone Cup, hoping to book their tickets to the $2m The Big Dance at Randwick on Melbourne Cup day.

Congratulations to his owners: Finemore Thoroughbreds, Mrs R M Finemore, Mr D J Mullally, Mrs I O’Shea, Mr M W Finemore, Mr R A Aboud, Mr P Ryan, Mr A Smyth
