Ladyking Gaps Them

The persistent and progressive filly Ladyking (Maurice x Shengli) got to exhibit her true talents in the Super Maiden Saturday at Newcastle. With Braith Nock in the saddle, the pair managed to win the race by a substantial margin of nearly ten lengths. The filly, having six starts with one second and one third in her last three leading into Saturday, Ladyking had big sights on breaking her maiden.

Although the filly missed the jump, John’s selection of putting the apprentice on the horse proved to be advantageous for the staying filly as Braith managed to find the box seat at the twelve hundred.

“This kid is a progressive young rider, I’ve been watching him for a while”- John O’Shea

When the pair got around to the bend, the jockey’s light weight and the filly’s experience proved far too superior for her competitors as they managed to quicken right away for victory.

The filly will have a month in the paddock to enjoy a well-deserved break. John has high hopes with Ladyking after her spekk, with ambitions to move her up to the two-thousand metre mark.

“Any horse that wins by that distance in any grade has a bright future”- John O’Shea post race.
