Improving Shalaa colt Shalailed struck a well-deserved maiden victory at Canterbury Park on Wednesday. Facing the starter for the fourth time and having never finished out of the placings, he was aided by a superb Brenton Avdulla ride to be positioned on the leaders back throughout before peeling to the middle of the straight and putting the field away to score his first win.
A $280,000 Magic Millions purchase by John O’Shea Racing, he will be allowed to find his level this preparation before coming back a bigger and stronger colt in the spring. His formlines so far in his career suggest he is a colt with a nice future and should be further improved on a drier surface.
