French import Athabascan took out the G3 Colin Stephens Stakes on Saturday over 2400m to back up his last start victory at listed level. The OTI purchase raced in restricted room for the most part until Tom Sherry managed a passage clear at the 300m mark where the son of Alamanzor showed an impressive turn of foot and to swoop his rivals in the shadows of the post.
The five-year-old has now adapted to the Australian way of racing and training after arriving almost twelve months ago from legendary trainer Andre Fabre, the progressive stayer will now likely head to Melbourne for the remainder of his spring campaign. His next start will be the G3 Bart Cummings Stakes at Flemington on the 7th of October over 2500m before possibly running in the Moonee Valley Cup, hopefully on the way to the G1 Melbourne Cup on the first Tuesday of November.
A big congratulations to all the winning owners-
